Amritsar’s Golden Temple is going to shine brighter with more 160 kg gold on its four gold-plated deodis (entrances).
Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee manages this holiest shrine of the Sikhs. Diljit Singh Bedi, the spokesperson and additional secretary of this committee told that the SGPC has decided to enhance the beauty of the shrine by gold-plating the four deodis. This will be in addition to the gold-plated Harmandar Sahib in the middle of the sarovar (holy tank), the domes of Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs, and darshani deodi (entrance to the sanctum sanctorum).
Diljit Singh Bedi further added that 40 kg gold will be used for each dome of each deodi. Gold-plating work of the main deodi near Ghanta Ghar is underway since April. Work on the rest will be taken up after the gold-plating of the first entrance is completed.
It was 192 years ago that Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the Sikh ruler, donated Rs 16.39 lakh for ‘sone di sewa’. After Operation Bluestar in 1984, Sikh organisations decided to repair and renovate the Golden Temple. With the help of many Sikh Organizations, across the world, it was done in April 1999.
Now, some more gold to revive shine of Golden Temple, even in a much better way!
