This monsoon, five northern eastern states have received deficit rainfall. The released by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has released a state-wise rainfall distribution statistics for the period from June 1 to July 17. Manipur has the highest rain shortfall in the country. Other four states are Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland.
IMD data also shows that Manipur received 69 per cent deficit rainfall. Depreciation in rainfall in Meghalaya during the period has been 42 per cent, while in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh the deficit was recorded to be 26 per cent and 32 per cent respectively. In Nagaland, it was registered as of 38 per cent.
However, IMD has forecast fairly widespread rain for the next three days in the states of Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram and Tripura. Despite the deficiency in rainfall, IMD is hopeful for good rain in the Monsoon season. However, only scattered rainfall is in sight for Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya till Friday.
IMD’s Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) based in Guwahati has also indicated that many places across Nagaland, Mizoram and Tripura had light to moderate rain in next 24 hours. There were also isolated instances of heavy rain across Assam during the period. Few places across Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya also received moderate rain.
