Index of NITI Aayog’s composite water management published on Thursday showed that Gujarat topped the report regardless of the ongoing water crisis and Jharkhand is the worst performer.
Supposedly, by 2030, India is going to face water scarcity as the demand will become twice the accessible supply of water.
Amitabh Kant, The CEO of NITI said the states are ranked across nine boards with 28 varying pointers covering many phases of irrigation, drinking water, etc.
Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Bihar are the worst performers in water management, according to a report by Nitin Gadkari, the water resource minister.
This severe water crisis in India puts millions of lives under risk, the report said. Every year, 2 lakh people die due to poor access to safe water. The crisis only seems to be getting worse.
