BAMTECH is the new mobile app recently launched by The South Asia Bamboo Foundation (SABF), Guwahati. This is a first of its kind mobile app in the northeast region to promote Bamboo. This app was officially launched in New Delhi on February 22 during a national seminar on “Emerging Building Materials and Construction Technologies”. This was launched by Hardeep Singh, Minister of state for housing and urban affairs.
SABF has developed this mobile app to popularize bamboo housing and construction under the sponsorship of Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council (BMTPC), Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India. Foundation’s development team head, Kamesh Salam and famous designer in bamboo craft, Sushant Kumar Yumkhaibam, formally launched this mobile app February 29 on at the Manipur press club, Imphal.
Addressing Press, Kamesh Salam shared that BAMTECH was re-launched for further promotion of this mobile app in north-eastern region. We all know that this part of India is famous as repository of Bamboo resources. Manipur solely contributes around fourteen percent of the country’s growing stock of Bamboo. Moreover, this state has 55 species of bamboo. BAMTECH would serve as the most useful knowledge bank of Bamboo related crafts and information. Other than this, it will be linking many relevant activities through web related to bamboo. Its users will have more information about the proper use of Bamboo starting from the treatment to the latest modern technology.
He further added that Bamboo is globally counted as one sustainable material. It can be a solution to government’s plan to construct 3 crore houses by 2022.
The South Asia Bamboo Foundation also worked out plans for furthermore economical development programmes in the north east region including bio fuel. SABF has recently signed a MoU with Assam Government to further develop programme of bio fuel utilizing bamboo. In Manipur, SABF is planning to tie up with the state forest department for having more skill development programme, value addition and investment.
