On Wednesday, Kolkata Police arrested a leather technologist. He was found with a dead body of a woman. This was his mother and he kept her body in a freezer for the past three years. This man has been identified as Subhabrata Majumdar. Police officials told Press that he had been withdrawing her pension for the past three years. His mother Bina died on April 7, 2015. Instead of doing her funeral processes, Subhabrata Majumdar applied ‘mummification’ techniques and kept the body of deceased mother in a commercial freezer.
Subhabrata Majumdar was detained from his house in Behala. Policemen from the local station and the Kolkata homicide department were in action on a tip-off. This house has two floors. Police found this freezer on the first floor. The family used to stay on the ground floor. Majumdar’s father Gopal also lives in the same house. He is also being questioned by the Police.
Nilanjan Biswas, deputy commissioner of Kolkata Police (south west division) told Press that Subhabrata Majumdar had withdrawn cash from her pension account using debit card. Police was investigating about the running pension account of this deceased woman. She had died three years back, yet her pension account was alive without life certificates.
Bina Majumdar and her husband Gopal Majumdar worked at the Food Corporation of India (FCI). Their son Subhabrata was working in a leather products company, but he left the job five years ago.
Locals told that Majumdar were not those people who love to mix with their neighbours. They found some suspicious activities when a high-tonnage air conditioning machine was installed in the first floor. However, this was a vacant floor. Yet, this AC used to run all the times.
A police officer said he had removed the internal organs from the deceased woman’s body and also used formaldehyde chemical for preservation.
