Manipur University (MU) was shut-down yesterday as a part of agitation by Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) demanding replacement of the vice-chancellor, Aditya Prasad Pandey. As a result of this strike, semester examination has been suspended. The charge against the vice-chancellor is that he does not appoint a regular registrar, examination controller, librarian and curator; they are powerless as they are assigned as in-charges of the posts.
MUSU has also pointed about the random leaves of the vice-chancellor and travelling expenses incurred in last one year. Manipur University Teachers Association (MUTA) is also agreed with the allegations made by the students against the vice-chancellor. Students are also annoyed as his security is turning the university into a military camp.
Manipur University vice-chancellor said that he is always ready to have a conversation with the students of the university and this issue will be resolved very soon.
