UIDAI is the organisation that takes care of the Aadhaar database. It has suggested people for not revealing this “personally sensitive information”.
On Wednesday night, an official tweet from UIDAI handle was; “People are advised to refrain from publicly putting their Aadhaar numbers on the internet and social media and posing challenges to others”
This was counted as a comment after the chief of country’s telecom regulator put out his 12-digit identity number on Twitter as a security challenge.
“This advisory has come with reference to some news items appearing on social media reporting few people publicly posting their Aadhaar numbers on the internet and social media and posing challenges to others,” said UIDAI.
UIDAI didn’t mention about Ram Sewak Sharma, a former UIDAI chief, but it appears to reject his statement on Twitter that “no harm” can be done to him because people knew his Aadhaar number.
According to a report in the Live Mint, people are claiming that they have made a fake Aadhaar card using Sharma’s number and available information and used it to authenticate himself on Facebook and Amazon Cloud Services.
