On Tuesday, a senior government official has confirmed that CBSE will not conduct any retest for the Class 10 mathematics paper. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided this after having a random evaluation of available sheets. CBSE decided this after a serious discussion within an analytical team of Officials.  This leak was “limited” and CBSE team have not found any need to put 1.4 million students again in examination hall because of such breach from which only a few may have benefited.
Yes, there are evidences about leaked question paper. Yet, there was not great improvement in performance of students in this paper. It confirmed that leaked question paper over social media sources was not available to many students.
After getting reports of paper leaks, The CBSE had earlier announced about the possibility of a retest. There were reports that this math exam would be held in July. Maths paper was leaked in various cities of Delhi, Haryana and Jharkhand. However, economics exam of class 12 will be re-conducted on April 25. The paper was also leaked in social media.
A government official has also told the press that this analysis was done by reviewing 1000 answer sheets from three regions to get the idea of a trend. And, these analytical findings had shown that the pass percentage in the Delhi region was 89.36 this year compared to last year’s 93.62. In Panchkula, it was 84.77 this year compared to last year’s 99.18. In Patna region, which parts of Jharkhand fall under, the pass percentage was 73.55 compared to last year’s 98.93.
On Tuesday, Anil Swarup, secretary (school education) in the HRD ministry shared with Press that we have gone through the answer sheets of class 10 math. We found that performance of students has gone down despite of this paper leak. It clearly indicated that leaked paper was not available to so many students. So, we decided to take our decision in favour of the overall interest of 1.4 million students. We will not go for a retest of class 10 Maths. It was certainly not found advisable to make inconvenient time for these many children without having any fault on their ends.
As a whole idea of the conducted analysis, one can understand that leaked paper had not benefited masses. If the paper was leaked to a big number of class 10 students then there would have been a greater number of students having 90 % and above in Maths exam. But, it was not found true. Hence, others should have not been suffered because few students have got the copy of Maths paper. Thus, The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided not to conduct any retest for the Class 10 mathematics paper.
