Last year, Nature was harsh to many states. People have seen disasters in the states of Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Rajasthan and the union territory of Lakshadweep. In 2017-18, Assam was affected by floods. Floods and landslides were cursing states of Himachal Pradesh and Sikkim. People in Rajasthan were affected by drought and Lakshadweep was affected by cyclone Ockhi.
Yesterday, a High-Level Committee has approved central assistance of Rs 1,161.17 crores to these states. This committee was headed by Union Minister Rajnath Singh. The Union Minister for Agriculture, Radha Mohan Singh, Union Secretary, Department of Expenditure, Ajay Narayan Jha and senior officers of the Ministries of Home Affairs, Finance and Agriculture and NITI Aayog attended the meeting.
