Yesterday, CBI has submitted charge sheets against 14 police personnel of state before the chief judicial magistrate, Imphal East. The charge sheet was about alleged fake encounter cases. It was done against them in following the order of the Supreme Court order dated July 14, 2017, registered vide RC 12(S)/ 2017-SC III/CBI/ New Delhi while taking over the investigation of FIR no. 14(1) 2012 IBG PS-u/s 307/342 IPC,25(1-C) Arms Act,5 Explosive Substance Act and 17/20 UA(P)A Act registered by local police on January 18, 2012.
As per that FIR, Md. Ishaqu and Md. Mustakin were killed in an encounter by a combined team of Imphal East and Imphal West commandos in the area of Irilbung and Kairao. Police were claiming two-way firing. However, CBI found in its investigation that the deceased were not holding the seized arms and explosive. Thus, CBI charged that these were planted by the local police.
The CBI during their investigation has reportedly found that the same police commando team also arrested others and third-degree torture had caused a death too.
Court took cognizance and has summoned accused persons to appear before the court on August 24.
