Assam Rifles is the country’s oldest police force. It has 46 battalions. On Assam Rifles, there is a double responsibility for the security of the North-Eastern Region and the Indo-Myanmar border security. The role of Assam Rifles in bringing the people of the North East into the national mainstream has been appreciable. This force is lovingly called ‘the guard of the northeast’ and ‘the friend of the hill people’.
