In last few days, North East had witnessed the black face of nature. However, the unparallel efforts of Assam Rifles (AR) and the Army have rescued many lives in truly severe conditions in flood-hit parts of Manipur and Tripura.
After the situation in Manipur worsened due to floods, personnel from Assam Rifles and Indian Army joined the relief and rescue operations Friday. As per a recent update from an officer, “more than 2,000 people are being sheltered at relief camps at Kailashahar, Tripura. A total of six columns are operating in the state after responding to a request from civil administration.”
In Manipur, heavy rains continued and more than 1.5 lakh people remained marooned in two flood-hit districts of the state. 430 people have been evacuated from Irong, Maibam, Uchiwa, Arapati, Kiyamgei, Achanbigai & Mongjam villages of Thoubal, Imphal East & Imphal West districts of Assam.
The death toll has gone up to 8 in Assam state and as per the recently received official statistics, 21 dead in Manipur and Tripura. Mizoram has also been badly hit and at least 1,066 families have been evacuated to safer places so far.
