Since May 30, Manipur University is in the paralysed state due to the agitation by Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) with the support of the Manipur University Teacher’s Association (MUTA) over their demand for removal of the Vice-Chancellor.
Now, the Joint Tribal Student Bodies, Manipur has jumped in this hassle. The association issued a media release denouncing the agitation as they are not convinced with the allegations against vice-chancellor Adya Prasad Pandey.
A press release from the Joint Tribal Student Bodies, Manipur stated that the state government has not taken any effective measure for the restoration of normalcy. In spite of our repeated request from the Registrar and Vice-Chancellor for adequate security arrangement for the restoration of normalcy, nothing was done. The joint student bodies mentioned that the allegations levelled by MUSU & MUTA are incompetent holds no ground, and in fact, it contradicts the reality.
The release further stated that they have also expressed their dissatisfaction over the negligence by the government to solve the problem.
The Joint Tribal Student Bodies have also submitted a memorandum to the Union Human Resource Development minister on 7th July for his intervention in this issue.
Joint Tribal Student Bodies have mentioned that they demand for having a high-level independent inquiry commission to bring a permanent solution to the frequent problems in Manipur University.
