In the 69th Strandja Memorial boxing tournament, MC Mary Kom won silver medal while Amit Panghal got his second consecutive international gold. The 23-year-old Haryana-boxer Amit defeated Morocco’s Said Mordaji to win gold in this tournament’s man category. Amit Panghal started in a sloppy way but he was able to beat Mordaji on accuracy level.
However, Mary Kom (48kg) lost her final match against Bulgaria’s Sevda Asenova. If she was winning this match too then it might have been her third consecutive gold after the Indian Open and the Asian Championships. However, a shocking decision of judges was not in her favour and she has to settle with a silver medal in this tournament. For most of the bout, she was the one who initiated the attack. The Olympic bronze-medalist Indian was dominating the bout throughout the match. She chased Asenova in a remarkable way. One this sort of chase for gaining a punch across by Mary Kom led to both boxers tumbling over each other and quite surprisingly, judges ruled their decision in the Asenova’s favour and this made Mary Kom to settle with the silver medal.
In another match, Seema Poonia lost her final match against Russia’s Anna Ivanova. Anna was quicker and won the match even after having a warning from referee in the final round. Indian women team of boxers has finished this tournament with two silver and four bronze medals.
Bhagyabati Kachari (81kg), Meena Kumari Devi (54kg), L Sarita Devi (60kg) and Saweety Boora (75kg) were other women boxers who got bronze medals in this tournament.  Mohammed Hussamuddin (56kg) and Satish Kumar (+91kg) were two bronze medalist man boxers from Indian side.
